![]() ![]() So, they HAD to switch to trucks from the tank car transload yard in Fremont for the bulk product to make the retail product. Crying shame-all the rail leads are still there, and the plant was busy and needed the service. I once asked the dock foreman about the rail spur, and he said they tried it, but the engines kept slipping on grade and unless they used more power, the RR told them "it wasn't going to happen." The RR didn't want to use more power, just to service 1 customer on 1 spur. We'd get 2-3 pup (28') trailers per night. My trucking company used to have an account at this paint plant-KELLY MOORE PAINTS. > was happy to continue that mode, so had no gripe. > Bay from a SFe transload facility in East Bay and > paint company was trucking its fluids around the > operate it, steepness and all, but by time project aprooved its design and assured all it would > The story I heard about the paint spur is that (Side question: Anyone know why Owens-Corning had their spur pulled out? The plant is still active. And I think the waste treatment facility near Alviso still gets the occasional car. There is a customer up near Central Expy on the Alviso line that gets a number of tank cars. I will bet that a few customers not currently shipping could be cultivated by a well run shortline, or some new traffic enticed.Īnyone getting freight rights to the Peninsula should just try and get all the remaining freight access in the north county at least. And there was an oil facility near College Park Station. There are still two customers near Lawrence Station, IIRC. Port of Redwood City could generate some decent carloads. Not sure if the paint company is still there. I believe there are 1 or 2 customers between Bayshort and South San Francisco. A couple cold storage facilities that UP serves directly in SF. There is the SF Bay Railway and the Port of SF operations around Ilias Creek. The paint spur was unused because the grade specified was done to SP standards and did not meet UP standards, according to a UP employee I know.
